Understanding PCOS: Why There’s More Than One Root Cause
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal conditions women face — yet it’s also one of the most misunderstood. If you’ve been told to “just lose weight” or handed birth control as the only solution, you’re not alone.
Here’s the truth: PCOS isn’t one-size-fits-all. There are several different root causes (or “types”) of PCOS, and understanding yours is the key to finally making progress with your hormones, metabolism, and overall health.
The 4 Most Common Root Causes of PCOS
Insulin-Resistant PCOS
By far the most common type, this form is driven by blood sugar imbalances. Signs may include intense carb cravings, midsection weight gain, fatigue after meals, and difficulty losing weight despite effort.
2. Adrenal PCOS
Often linked to chronic stress and overworked adrenals. Women with this type may have high DHEA levels, irregular cycles, anxiety, and symptoms that worsen with stress.
3. Inflammatory PCOS
This type is driven by chronic inflammation in the body, often connected to gut health, food sensitivities, or toxin exposure. Signs can include skin issues (like acne or eczema), joint pain, fatigue, and bloating.
4. Post-Birth Control PCOS
For some women, symptoms emerge after coming off hormonal birth control. This can show up as missing or irregular periods, acne, and hair changes.
Finding Your Root Cause
When you know the root cause of your PCOS, you can target your healing plan instead of guessing. This means:
Choosing the right foods for blood sugar balance and hormone support
Supporting your gut and reducing inflammation where needed
Using lifestyle tools to calm the nervous system and regulate cycles
Knowing when supplements (and which ones) can actually help
It’s not about another crash diet or quick fix. It’s about working with your body instead of against it.
Why Root Cause Is Everything
Here’s the truth: PCOS isn’t “fixed” with one-size-fits-all advice. Pills and restrictive diets may cover symptoms for a while, but they don’t address why your body is out of balance in the first place.
That’s why in my practice, we take a root cause approach. Instead of forcing your body into short-term changes, we identify your unique drivers — whether that’s insulin resistance, inflammation, adrenal stress, or post-birth control shifts — and build a healing plan around them.
And the results speak for themselves:
One client with six cysts on each ovary saw them completely resolved in just six months.
Several women struggling with fertility conceived within four months of working together.
I’ve seen inflammation calm within the first month, cyst pain disappear, weight cycling stabilize, and energy finally return.
When you stop guessing and start targeting the root cause, your body responds. This is the path to real, lasting results — and it’s possible for you, too.
